Travel with reindeer and sleigh through snowy wilderness. Feed the reindeer by hand, earn your Reindeer Driving License, and warm up in a traditional kota with grilled sausage and hot drinks.

Glide through silent Lapland forests on an authentic reindeer safari in Salla. After a clear safety briefing, you’ll enjoy a private reindeer sleigh ride — one adult per sleigh, children alongside a parent — an easy and deeply relaxing way to travel winter trails.

Along the route: feed the female reindeer and learn about their Arctic life from our local guides, then a photo stop perfect for next year’s Christmas card.

For a cosy break, we visit a traditional Lappish kota for grilled sausage, hot drinks and a sweet bun. Complete the adventure by earning your official Reindeer Driving License.

How it unfolds

  1. Arrival

    Check in and gear up

    Check in at the front desk and meet up with your guide. Warm overalls, winter shoes and mittens are provided if needed.

  2. Before the start

    Driving school

    Our guide will provide driving instructions and go through the safety guidelines before the safari. Instructions are in English

  3. Step 1

    Sleigh ride through the wilderness

    You sit down in the sleigh and enjoy the silent ride. Glide through snow-laden Lappish forest. One adult per sleigh; children sit with a parent.

  4. Step 2

    Reindeer feeding & photo stop

    Hand-feed the females and calves. Learn about Arctic reindeer herding traditions and get that unforgettable photo.

  5. Step 3

    Kota lunch by open fire

    Warm up in a traditional Lappish kota. Grill your own sausage, enjoy hot drinks and a sweet bun while your guide shares stories of the north.

  6. Finish

    Earn your Reindeer Driver's License

    Receive your official Reindeer Driver's License as a proof of your experience!

Who is this for?

The excursion is suitable for all ages. Children travel in the same sleigh as their parent.

Frequently asked questions

What should I bring?
Just warm base layers. All outer gear (overalls, boots and mittens) is provided. Arrive 15 minutes before your start time to collect your gear and receive the safety briefing.
What happens in very cold weather?
So far we have not cancelled a single safari because of the cold. We make sure everyone has warm clothes and we might adapt the lenght of the safari and make a bit bigger fire at the fire place.
Can you accommodate dietary requirements?
Yes. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements when booking. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available.
Is this suitable for families and kids?1
Yes, 3 hour reindeer safari is a perfect activity for the whole family. While booking, you can let us know the ages of the kids.
